Diamond and Gold Contact Lenses from India

A Indian optometrist Chandrashekhar Chawan, developed Diamond-Embedded contact lenses, which are soft contact lenses fitted with 18 diamonds and gold. Chandrashekhar Chawan of Shekhar Eye Research Center in Mumbai said that these Diamond-Embedded Contact Lenses fits comfortably and can be configured as corrective contact lenses.

These Diamond Contact Lenses weighs 5 grams and holds 18 diamonds with yellow or white gold. The Indian company placed a price tag of US$15,444 (INR700,000) for each pair of contact lens. The maker will be making a limited supply of 3,996 pairs of diamond contact lens.

The profits from these diamond and gold contact Lens will be used for treatment of patients with Stevens Johnson Syndrome – a skin disease that affects the tear glands and leads to loss of vision.
